I look in the passenger side mirror at the cloud of dust that billows up from the tires as we pull off and onto the side of the road. I step out into unfamiliar terrain but there is something familiar about this place. Although I may be countless miles away, it reminds me of home.

I place my camera where I stand.

My view, experience, travel companions, and destinations are all part of the story I capture onto a piece of film. Multiple cameras lend themselves to multiple perspectives all coming from my panoramic view during this unique moment. The nostalgia and sense of home is what I photograph and although it will be different than the viewer’s, they join me on my journey.

As an undergrad at Columbus College of Art and Design, Clair was on the cusp of the change in photography. A time when film was trying to survive and digital was trying to take over. Emphasis was put on the knowledge and technique of photography without fixing the image in post-production, which leads much of her work being about the process of creating her images.  Clair has found enjoyment in the challenge of continuing to use film photography and validation from the beautiful imagery.

She has travelled around the United States by car, with her partner Aaron at the wheel, and documented the journey with the use of analog cameras, bringing home stories and photographs. Even with the call to travel, Clair loves to be at home in Ohio with her partner, Aaron and two Newfoundland travel companions. Bringing home the stories, images and memories from the road.
