During a time when a lot of photography is seen with the camera facing oneself, I am turning the camera back around and placing it where I stand.

Many people go on vacation and take a photo of themselves in front of the attraction and I used to do that as well. The first time I went to New York City, I didn’t want to just take a picture of the skyline, I wanted to prove I was there. So, while riding the ferry out to Liberty Island, I put my back to the city, turned the lens towards me and made a fish face along side the World Trade Towers. A photo, I am now pained with because I never saw the World Trade Towers again.

Now, instead of showing my head filling the corner of the photograph and my arm stretched out from the camera, I hold the camera at my waist, or set my tripod by my feet and put it where I stand. Sometimes people are in the photo and sometimes parts of me make it in, but it’s more important for me to show what I’m looking at, what I’m experiencing, my view and where I stand.
